Hi Movie Shrink,
I agree with you that there was definitely a strong perspective given about the men who fear committment and marriage in this movie. However, you did not mention Conor (Kevin Connolly) who very much wanted to settle down and get married. Also, although Neil (Ben Affleck) and Alex (Justin Long) initially were not interested in marriage and committment, they eventually changed their minds, without the coercion of women I might add. I think the movie is a very real glimpse of what women face in the dating world. And, it is skewed to show the He's Just Not That Into You Perspective rather than the He's Very Into You Perspective, so it makes sense that it did not provide as strong a perspective about the men who crave committment and marriage. Thanks for a thought provoking and interesting review. I look forward to your future reviews!

Yes, I totally agree. I marveled at the social relevance. It's essentially the same battle 30 years later. I had no idea. Though, they were victorious with Prop 6, whereas prop 8's victory went to the Mormons and other anti-gays.

In other news..
Sean Penn is the shit. He's a brilliant actor with an uncanny ability to embody the characters he plays. I am so moved by his work. You hit it on the head - he just is.

I did see this film at the Castro theatre, and it was so worth it!

Thanks, Movie Shrink!

Have you seen this Demographic Winter video? I saw it over on Kingfisher Column, the decline of the family has huge economic impact. This thing is chilling.

Bond is back in action as the director says the title may be odd, but the plot is familiar. Yet again I am surprised with the action and technology used by the movie Quantum of Solace .One was Bond's cell phone camera capabilities, it is very much related to the current political frame I think http://www.80millionmoviesfree.com Is where I saw and remarkable movie it will be.

Well, it's no secret of my utter contempt for Tyler Perry films. Actually, I take that back. I really struggle with this one. On the one hand, here is a black man who is making films about "positive" themes. However, I can't overcome feeling completely slighted. All the characters are such extreme caricatures, the plots so predictable and almost identical, it almost can't be called art...wait...this just in. It absolutely CANNOT be called art. His exposition is wince-worthy ("I mean, did you ever think we'd grow up to be doctors and lawyers?"). But, alas, he is doing it. He is employing Black actors. He is making films for and about Black folks. What could be wrong with that? I'll tell you what. At what point will we start holding ourselves to higher standards?

It's the same gripe I have with mainstream rap music. You have the floor. People are listening. And, you mean to tell me, THAT is all you have to say? Booty butt, booty butt, booty butt cheeks? Really? Seriously?

I somehow feel as long as our own people are making "art" that panders to our lowest levels of thought, what's the motivation to see a "Great Debaters" when it comes along? Something that makes you think. Something to remind us of our greatness, and the enormous mountain which we've trudged over. I mean, your argument holds weight, but a film such as "Great debaters, which does focus on the racism they encountered, but ultimately how they overcame it, still was unsuccessful.

It begs the question: Are we really that dumb? Would we really rather see "Soul Plane" than "Miracle at St. Anna?".

I honestly don't know. Thank you for facilitating the dialogue, it must be had.
